ONE Championship- Amir Khan defeats Vaughn Donayre by Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

– A victory inside the ONE Championship cage remains elusive to Filipino fighter Vaughn Donayre as he yielded to Singaporean sensation Amir Khan on the undercard of the organization’s “Defending Honor” event on Friday, November 11, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

The 37-year-old Cebu native suffered a third-round submission setback that prolonged his losing streak to 4 bouts under the ONE Championship banner.

Khan got the job done at the 2:22 mark of the third and final frame with a suffocating rear-naked choke.

Even though Khan had a partisan crowd rallying behind him, his triumph over Donayre was not a walk in the park as he was in great danger when Donayre surprised him with a Kimura lock in the second round.

Donayre, who virtually had nothing to offer to the 22-year-old Singaporean as he was effortlessly taken down and nearly submitted by Khan in the first round, turned the tide midway point of the second stanza.

After back-to-back takedown conversions by Khan, Donayre quickly stood back to his feet and scooped his opponent down to the canvas.

Having the top control on the mat, Donayre twisted Khan’s arm with a wrenching Kimura lock that almost gave him his first win in ONE Championship.

Khan managed to sweep for an escape, but Donayre did not let go of the arm and pulled for an armbar submission.

However, Khan was able to survive the gutsy onslaught of Donayre in the second canto.

Realizing that Donayre could pose more threat in the final round, Khan easily scored a double-leg takedown.

Khan swiftly positioned himself in full mount before he transitioned to Donayre’s back for the fight-ending submission.

With the come-from-behind victory over Donayre, Khan has now won 3-straight matches and improves to a 6-2 professional record.

Meanwhile, Donayre is still winless in ONE Championship and downgrades his win-loss standing to 8-6.
