Conference of Head of the Missions of the Emigration Check Required Category Countries
Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs, Sh. Vayalar Ravi has stated that the Indian Community Welfare Found (ICWF) has been established in all Embassies/ Missions to meet expenses on carrying out various on-site welfare activities for overseas Indian citizens who are in distress. Addressing at the conference of Heads of Missions of Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries, he said more than 30,000emigrants benefited from ICWF.Shri Ravi said that Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana has been launched in the country and UAE. The scheme will soon be launched in other Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries. He asked the Heads of Missions to proactively work on the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana which provides the overseas Indian workers a pension, a sum for return and resettlement and life insurance during the period of five years.

Sh. Ravi said that the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs has undertaken e-Migrate Project, costing at Rs 90 crore, with a vision to transform e-migration into a online process. The Ministry is targeting to roll out e-migrate in March 2013.

More than 50 Lakh Indians work in the ECR countries on temporary employment/contract visas, predominantly in the construction, healthcare and household services sectors. The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs is primarily responsible for taking welfare measures for protection and welfare of Overseas Indian Workers.
